Gentle Yoga 1 is a great place to either begin or sustain a yoga practice. The postures are simple; the pace is slower, more meditative. Basic breath practices to bring focus and brief meditation experiences are included in the sequences.
Gentle Yoga 2 is for when you'd like a combination of more complex postures, this class offers binds and twists, some strengthening and balancing challenges, with lengthening stretches on the floor. Pace is slow and meditative.
Gentle Yoga 1 & 2 are offered each season at Maine General's Healthy Living Program and at Center for Health Insight in Hallowell during the school year.
Offered regularly, miniretreats are two hour yoga experiences that hope to support and deepen your practice. These special classes are at Center for Health Insight in Hallowell, unless we are invited elsewhere, and are available for sign up on Facebook or by email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
This class is a style of yoga called vinyasa. Aerobic, strengthening, and rhythmic, flow yoga asks us to rely on our inhales and exhales to move into and out of postures--hence the word flow! Meditative, moving sequencing. Includes deep rest and 15 minutes of optional seated meditation. This class is offered Weds. nights at CHI in Hallowell during the school year.
Often imbalanced or blocked, chakras, when balanced, awaken us to better vitality, stamina, health and well-being. This series is intended to stimulate and clear out blocks in each one in our body. This is Kundalini Yoga, a type of energetic yoga, that uses rhythmic movements--often seated--for periods of 1-3 minutes with rests between to integrate energy. Deep rest, specific mantras and meditations are included in each class.
People from Hallowell and surrounding communities have been holding Sunrise Yoga classes at the Granite Park dock for years. Overlooking the Kennebec River, we join at 6 AM, Tuesdays, through summer when the weather allows. The yoga is a fusion of Flow Yoga and Gentle 2 Yoga. Yoga Nidra is meditation done lying down in Corpse Posture. It is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the student becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of verbal instructions. The yogic goal of becoming still, silent and focused in this way is deep relaxation, a state of meditative consciousness called samadhi.
